Week 18 of 20 Training and Fundraising update

A lot has happened in the last two weeks since my last blog, and with only 19 days until we roll out of Adelaide, it is likely the next few weeks are going to be chaotic.

I mentioned a few weeks ago (Week 13 update) that one of our beautiful friends had learned her mum had cancer and only weeks to live. Unfortunately in the past two weeks she lost her battle. During the week we attended the funeral and the entire Burgess family gave their mum an incredible farewell and celebration of her life.  To Dom, JB, Jai and Cruz and all the Burgess family our best wishes and thoughts are with you in this difficult time.

Due to the ongoing issue with hives after every ride, a side effect from my accident last year, I visited a specialist to see if there was anything that could be done to manage the outbreaks. In turns out I am allergic to exercise, with what has been diagnosed as exercise induced anaphylaxis. There are two ways to manage it, stop exercising or lots of antihistamines. No prizes for guessing which way I’m going. The good news is that there is a possibility it will go away with time.

In fundraising news, I have passed a few more milestones. As a result of the cheque from ISIS Australia Group (building contractors), I have now raised a tick over $53,000, which is more than my last year’s tally and takes me past $100,000 raised in the two years of my involvement with TDC. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would be possible, and the crazy thing is I am still working on hitting the $100,000 mark for this year’s tally.

A big thanks to ISIS who have been quick to supporCharity Photo - 2t my efforts, organising presentations at a couple of their sites (one pictured below) and matching funds raised to boost the total donation. At the cheque presentation Peter Makris (General Manager – NSW) was explaining the other projects that they support including building education facilities in Cambodia and a 10 year association with a bone marrow charity. It is great to have corporate partners that value social responsibility so highly.

This week the Vittoria campaign will be launched after final amendments have been made and approved to the email content. The anticipation of how this campaign could go is exciting. An email is going to 230,000 customers and suppliers of Vittoria, which could be overwhelming if the response rate is anything like 1% that normal email campaigns achieve. A massive thanks to Cassandra Prothero and Rolando for putting this together for me.

Training this week has been impacted by the weather, a long wet ride on Friday tested the resilience, but given the rain continued Saturday I’m glad we got it done. The indoor sessions just don’t have the same appeal at the moment. Another solid week of training this week and then it will be time to start tapering to freshen up in time for tour.

Till next week, have a great week and don’t forget to share the message to donate, every dollar counts.

Cheers, Woody
