We spent yesterday chasing rainbows, but when we caught them they were very wet!!

Mount Gambier, Coonawarra, Mount Gambier

94km, 260m elevation, 3hr 10mins ride time

This morning we did not have to check out of our accommodation as we did a loop ride today, with a few school visits and the team time trial as well.  We had breakfast at Blue Lake caravan park.  The lake has sheer cliffs and looks like it is in a crater.  It was a chilly 7 degrees, but actually warmed up a little and the sun came out.  For the first time we were not rained upon – yippee!!  I actually took my leg warmers and wind vest off for the team time trial too!!

I am in team Lexus and have some very strong riders in my team – Simon, Chester, Geoff, Paul, Scott, Chris, Gav, Philip and Ron.  Please note that I am the only female!!  I have also been nursing and treating quadricep insertional tendinosis, which basically means I do not have as much power for time trialling.  I wish I could have given them more speed, but still went ok.  We find out the results at the final night when the Team of Tour is announced.  It was still fun, and I am really enjoying the camaraderie of Team Lexus.

We did our first team school presentation at Kalangadoo Primary School.  I think the team presented a fantastic ‘Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy’ message to the tiny school. After this we had to get back to Mount Gambier quickly to meet the buses taking us out to Rymill Winery in the Coonawarra.  To my knowledge they have not had a nice restful afternoon like that on tour ever.  It is lovely countryside out there, and I am loving seeing the southern autumn with the glorious colours of the trees.  We don’t get this in Queensland.

The founders presented us with special blue jerseys to wear tomorrow which commemorates 200 projects funded, and 13 cancer break throughs funded.  This is a huge achievement for Tour de Cure.  We had a lovely lunch out there, and got to sample some of their nice wines as well.

Enjoying some local brew.

We then bussed it back to the hotel and we are having a casual team only dinner at the Mount Gambier hotel.  No formalities, no jersey awards, just a chill out.  This will mean a nice early night to bed in readiness for the 220km ride tomorrow!!

Thank you to all my supporters. Keep those donations coming in.  We are not quite on our target as yet, so we need more $$$$$
