On my own Saturday ride

After a good colleague’s leaving drinks on Friday which I was not ‘good’ but I wasn’t bad either and was home and in bed with 2 pints of water in me by 9.45pm I woke up feeling surprisingly not too bad but with NO motivation whatsoever to want to ‘ride some hills’.  After about 20 mins of procrastination I finally got up, forced myself to have some crumpets (funnily enough, being a little hungover is quite conducive to being able to eat breakfast so early) and ‘got on my bike’.

So this was my second time doing the Watson Bay hills and my sense of direction or lack of held me in good stead as it kept me going up and around and down and finding a few back roads, had I known about the MASSIVE hill on one of them I definitely wouldn’t have turned left at that point.  After getting to the point of legs burning x 10 and actually finding Watson’s Bay (see photo) I decided to head down to Centennial to get some more KM’s under my belt as the Eastern Suburb  roads were getting busier and the drivers crankier.

So today’s remit was to test different nutrition so I finished off a bar which I had previously tested early on and then I was down to gels or goo’s or something like that.  Forgetting everything that the oracle of Ben Taylor had told me and “save caffeine to last as there is no coming back from it” I promptly took my 1 x gel with caffeine gel and woo hoo, I was soon speeding around Centennial and trying to chick as many people as possible.  It soon becomes monotonous in Centennial Park but I kept mixing it up with some hills and soon enough, I felt the ‘come down’ hit and even though I hadn’t done the 60K’s I had wanted I thought about heading home.  Then in next thought, I was #WWHD and she would have taken the remaining gel (no caffeine) to see how much further she could, so that’s what I did.  So round and round I went again and landed on 67km’s with my highest to date elevation of over 700m with no real breaks apart from toilet and photo stops.  I was pretty glad to get home though……
