Day 6: Mt Gambier to Warrnambool (29th April)
Hello there folks. We woke this morning knowing that the longest leg of tour needed to be tackled – 215km.
Let’s cross to Willie to see how this day unfolded.

Hi everyone – I’m pretty excited today. Big day, lots of km’s to cover and we’re over the halfway mark,
The support crew started the day extra early joining Mark Beretta at the Sunrise crosses from Mount Gambier Woolworths. The pelotons arrived soon after and were greeted with big news today – yes BIG news in the form of a $200,000 donation from Woolworths!
That brings Tour de Cure to the $4million mark for this financial year, and means we can fund more research projects to help find a cure, support projects for those suffering with the journey of cancer, and prevention projects focused on education and awareness of communities.
So on our 200th funded project, a 200+km day ahead and a $200,000 cheque – Project 200 has kicked off to an amazing start!
As we prepare for today, we remember Gary’s (Tour de Cure Co-Founder) advice about mental strength. With 200km+ to ride – it’s time to smash it! It’s going to be an achievement and we are ready to roll. The weather is looking good, no rain and we are off.
After 100ish km we stopped at Portland Primary School and were greeted by some very excited kids who ran out to us as we arrived. We were just as thrilled to give another cancer awareness presentation – it just never gets old! The kids are so awesome and inspiring and we just love sitting down amongst them, playing games, and inspiring them to Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy!
Then it’s time to refuel while Jensie gives a few rockstar interviews.
It’s a great day so far…. but another 100km to go so we had better get cracking.
There will be a big blog tomorrow as we head to Warnambool for our biggest community dinner yet with Optus!

Good stuff Willie
We had a great brekky and a team photo at Woolies in our commemorative 200th project funded jerseys.
Jens Voigt also loved getting in among the kids during the school presentations. A sociable, friendly guy.
More about the huge community dinner in Warrnambool in the next blog but I’ll close off by saying we had NO RAIN today. Apart from a little sprinkle we did not get rained on. AND the sun was out so on went the sunscreen. What a pleasant change. We did have a head wind for pretty much the whole ride but we managed a good pace – approx 30 km/hr for the 215km.
Donation tally update:
My donation tally is sitting just over $28,500. Getting very close to the $30,100 target so I can beat my efforts from last year.
Some stats from today:
Distance ridden: 214km (908km running total)
Elevation climbed: 945m (3,415m running total)
Time ridden: 7 hrs 16 min (32 hrs 58 min running total)
Thanks for all your support.I hope you are enjoying the updates.
