Day 2: Lakes Entrance to Sale

Hello everyone! I hope your weekend is off to as good a start as mine.

Dazza’s Diary – Day 2: www.facebook.com/daren.armstrong.7/videos/755877807902749/

Here’s the post to the highly impressive Channel 7 highlights reel: www.facebook.com/TourdeCureAustralia/videos/10155925786043976/

Woke up today to a crisp but very pleasant morning. Chowed down on some excellent breakfast as always as prepared by the amazing folks from Canadian Kitchens. We then set off for what was quite an uneventful day of riding. No schools to visit on a Saturday so we got to enjoy the countryside and have a good chat with our fellow riders.

As I’ve mentioned in today’s Dazza’s Diary video the highlight of today was having a good chat with Ben Davies, a dad with a young family from Perth. Not that long ago Ben went through major surgery to help remedy a serious bowel cancer situation which still presents some complications for him, and nearly prevented him from riding the Tour. On top of that last year he was diagnosed with a brain tumour and required extensive surgery to remove this. He permanently lost hearing in his left ear and for a period from October 2016 he had to learn how to ride again as he had completely lost his ability to maintain balance. Well, he is here on tour and riding strong. Great guy and what a trooper.

It’s important to note that on each tour there is generally quite a bit of riding off the beaten track. We take little country roads in order to get to the rural locations that are part of the route. The job of navigation by the lead support vehicle is therefore quite critical, and can be difficult if roads are not signposted properly. Take this example…the lead navigator in the car calls through to the lead rider on his bike “take a right at sh!t beer”. Lead rider answers over the 2-way “take a right at WHAT???”. Well in my mind it’s quite obvious don’t you think – what was all the confusion about?

I’ll leave you with that to ponder, and if anyone knows what this is actually a reference to I’d like to know (it’s about 30 odd km’s outside of Sale)   🙂
