Time to step it up

It’s been a funny old month Feb…..the weather hasn’t been all that conducive to riding that’s for sure – but never the less, we’ll ride out of Adelaide, heading for Canberra in April regardless of what the weather has been like, so I’m running out of excuses and its time to step it up

There have been some great training rides over the last month, and it’s awesome to be back in the routine of getting up a few mornings a week and catching up with the TdC crew – they are such an amazing bunch, and they make the time riding extremely enjoyable. I’m quickly realising that it’s time to really start the training. Only 2 more months of training to go, and I’m still panting to go over a speed hump on the road.

Since my last post, a past colleague and friend of mine watched her Mother lose her battle with cancer. Whilst the time training and riding with a great group of people is enjoyable, its stories like this that bring the realities of why I’m doing it to the front of my mind. I recently attended the Day of Inspiration – an incredible event where proceeds go to TdC. During that I was refreshed to hear the through community support, government funding and talented people, in roads are being made to find a cure. Back in the 1960’s the chance of survival from Leukemia was as close to 0% as can be. Now, some 50 years on that has changed to a 85% survival rate…..and it makes me wonder where we will be in another 50 years…..Every time I hear a story like my friends, I pray that we are closing the gap in all cancer survival rates and one day Tour de Cure wont need to exist.
