The final month

Well its almost here – less than 4 weeks till we ride out of Sunrise Breaky central and things are looking on track which is great.  There has been some great challenges along the way, balancing Family, work, training and fundraising has proven VERY difficult and I’m lucky to have the support of my family through this.

I have just returned home from 4 hrs running a sausage sizzle at Officeworks with my 2 boys and wife plus some great friends helping.  We have not made huge $$ but I think the effort involved makes you appreciate what you are undertaking, its not easy, but things worthwhile often aren’t.  The kids had a great time, eventhough they were stuck in a carpark for 4hrs.

This week has also seen me come down with a head-cold which is a bit of a set back for training this week and intensity needing to be eased back.  Burning the candle at both ends has its consequences it seems.

Aside from this my training has been on track and I feel well positioned to go the distance, but having never ridden 10days straight with such epic distances, I expect to find some hurdles I did not foresee.  Sore backside, and not getting sick are two things top of mind

On the plus side my fabulous sister and parents with the help of many great friends staged a hugely successful movie night fundraiser in Tassie with 130 people showing up, bidding on auction items donated by many generous people and businesses.  We are estimating around $3500 raised from this one event which is fantastic.

My fundrasiing dinner is now a bit over a week away and we have around 20 tickets sold, I am confident quite a few more will be sold through the rest of this week as poeple lock in their plans.  My busy time now will be sourcing the prizes for the raffle/auction etc.

I have been lucky to now be featured in a local Huon Valley newspaper with the efforts of my parents, and am also in the local school newsletter – this has seen quite a few donations roll in from strangers with wonderful messages of encouragement – and some of these are very generous indeed.  Thankyou to all.

From some pretty tough looking goals a month ago, there has been great momentum gathering and with a little extra push, I’m now confident of getting over the line.

I hope to be able to report on a big success from the Fundraiser dinner next week – watch this space

As always, thanks so much to everyone whom has contributed to my journey and moreso – supported this great cause.  I do the work on the bike, but its all of you whom have shared and contributed who are really making the difference.Pete TdC
