The big one, 200km +
The big 200km ride on Saturday 9th March, 5.10am departure which is about as early as they get.
Up & feeling fresh after a great nights sleep, coffee & dry cereal in the car on the way to Neutral Bay, made it in great time 4.35am. Opened the boot of my car & to my horror my shoes were missing. Back in the car, up to Maiseys where Luke is enjoying the morning paper solo cause it’s still early. Told him I’d meet the crew at Hornsby Pool, off home for my shoes. Joined the group with a 17km deficit. Who would care except that I was going to have to make it up at the end of the ride. Fabulous ride by all, 31km/hr average, a few flats, a broken derailleur (Luke had to make the call to his brother to come & pick him up at the furthest possible point of the ride 100km out) left the group at Galston Road for about 30km of repeats around the burbs to make up my 201km yahoo done! First time I didn’t fall asleep after a big ride, in fact cleaned my cluster & the rest of bike so she was good for the next adventure. It’s a great feeling when these big rides are over.
25km was all that was required the next day to make my week up to 406km, so that’s all I did & enjoyed a day just being at home pottering with & without the family.
