Tour de Cure Time Trial Madness!
Saturday 16/03/13
The 4th Annual TDC Think Global Steve Davies (presented by Andy K) Memorial Time Trial. 22km of cycling madness at West Head.
The EASY – FLAT OUT – EASY ride that was posted was nothing of the sort, with the exception of the FLAT OUT TT bit in the middle.
The ride out to West Head was like riding amongst a bunch of Staffys on leads heading to the dog park, talk about toey!
I went off first & wondered how far out I’d get before someone passed me, no one did, not for the whole race! The intervals were 1min apart & second man experienced a broken spoke so the rest of the field was at least 2 mins behind for starters.
From the OPTUS team Peter took out 1st of the 1st tour riders category.
I won best female (because I was the only one!)
& Ian introduced a new category as the man who tried so hard & made it to the loo at the turn around point before spewing & still finishing.
Steve from Think Global Ltd, generously donated the prize money, Moi as recipient, & Mal (TDC veteran) who had nothing to do with this category, he just likes getting his photo taken. I do believe he placed in his own category.
So that was my version. This is the result.
The 4th, and most hotly contested editions of the Annual Steve Davies Think Global Memorial Time Trial presented my Andy K occurred on an amazing Saturday in March. Contenders and pretenders rolled in from all corners of Sydney to grab a slice of Steve and Andy’s cash donations for their Tour de Cure accounts.
Sandbagging on the ride out and in the start zone was more furious than seen in a Queensland summer; everyone had an excuse. But as each rider was called up to their start slot, talk ceased and pedal crunching commenced for the next 40-50 mins across West Head’s unforgiving parcours.
The results don’t lie, but apparently sometimes the riders do! Thanks to sensational timing skills, ASADA officials with yellow-capped sample jars (bored with NRL and AFL apparently), the secret CCTV cameras positioned at 500m points along the road and examining by CAS, we finally have what looks to be a bunch of worthy recipients of the cash, and a few people who might need to take a good long hard look at themselves.
RESULTS
WOMENS
1. Lisa Healey (45:50) – in yet another show of clean consistency. Gents, pay attention, 2013 she’ll be taking a little of the blokes $$ too
MASTERS
1. Rob Hacker (41:49)- came down from the hills and slaughtered all.
2. Mal Heath (41:59)- still bitter that he has to work for Steve’s money
3. Mike Pain (43:00)- a mild-mannered way to round out the podium.
4. Steve Davies (42:00 +1:01) – Talked too much; gave everyone the sh!ts
+90kgs: 1. Mal Heath – well done taking out the REAL premier category
Virgins: 1. Pete Zarin – The bloke with the most serious TDC photo and biggest smile in real life popped his cherry faster than anyone else.
Guests : 1. Philippe (I think) – Sorry, Steve and I are bad with names (I don’t think so Philippe wasn’t there!!!)
Finally, the (apparently dirty) OPENS
4. BOLTY (39:59 +10min) – fastest time on the day, soloed the whole way. Unfortunately
– +5 min for being dropped on the way home
– +5 min for beating Davies at the Highland Fling in November
3. PETE ZARIN (42:22)– despite being a virgin, he was fast and clean. How the ladies like it
2. STRAVA STEVE (40:19 +20 sec) – strong man who shouldn’t need to take short cuts, but:
– +10 sec penalty for filthy drafting;
– +10 sec penalty for not doing turns on Tuesday then taking out the sprint
1. DK (40:34 +30sec) – another freakish strong man and this time topping the table despite his unfortunate
– + 30secpenalty fordressing up in a clown (skin) suit and asked the timing steward to carry his sh!t.
Well done all – Donations will pop in tomorrow
