Wax off and hairy caterpillars!!!!!!!!!

Next Tuesday we’re got the last of our corporate fundraisers. It’s a Wax off. Straight forward really & it will be a laugh to see the boys squeal at the discomfort as the wax strips  get ripped off! Though I could be the ripper, apparently not!

Amongst a number of other activities all 5 full tour OPTUS riders will have legs publicly waxed, self included, for the purpose of significant fundraising for Tour de Cure & public humiliation as we all endure the pain to entertain others. Some of us have had this experience before & know what we’re in for, others like myself have never had our legs waxed & know it’s going to hurt!

Since I was about 15 I have always prided myself in keeping my legs neat & tidy with a razor. In the early days I would pinch my fathers razor & now I notice my daughters pinch mine. This is what girl shavers do!

It mightn’t seem like a big deal to anyone else but I am quietly fascinated at the growth that can occur on ones legs in just 11 days. At the risk of sounding creepy sometimes I do have a moment when my legs brush past each other when I wonder whose leg that is!

I can hide out most of the time, long pants, long dress, long boots, but there’s now no hiding out in the peloton & I did feel I needed to explain myself this morning & advise that I wasn’t really getting slack on my personal grooming but that it was all in the spirit of fundraising. It’s still much too warm to wear leg warmers & cover these babies up. I am expecting by next weekend to have a lovely coat of  mixed colours all ready for the Wax Off on the following Tuesday. It will be wonderful to see these hairy caterpillars go.

Donations to the cause can be made here: https://give.everydayhero.com/au/optus-wax-off. Viewing & recording of the spectacle will occur at midday on the 23rd April in the piazza at OPTUS.
