Group training ride for QLD TdC riders

Monday the 27th January, a bunch of QLD riders participating in the 2014 Signature Tour as either Guest, Support or Full Tour riders got together for an official training ride.  The goal?  To conquer Mt Mee and complete at least 130kms of riding.

A most eventful ride began at our house in Samford Valley with a team of 9 riders heading out to Dayboro on the way to Mt Mee.  Everyone climbed the mountain at their own pace and all made it to the summit where we re-gathered.  Unfortunately descending the otherside saw a major failure of a rear wheel on David’s bike, luckily he was able to keep it upright and brought it to a halt with the rim firmly lodged against the frame.

A call to his family had a spare wheel enroute to his location whilst the rest of us pedalled on.  Then plan for David to fix the bike and travel by car till he caught up again.

The road from Wamuran to Caboolture was a busy one and whilst we all ride responsibly and keep to the shoulder  there is still the occasional driver that spoils it by being aggressive and blasts the horn *sigh*

Still in high spirits though we made it to Caboolture and settled on Macca’s cafe’ for a quick bite and re-fuel of coffee and muffins.  Upon entering the driveway we had a small misfortune of a rider hitting the deck when negotiating the kerb hop.  A basic examination done to ensure he was alright and off we went again on the homeward trip.

On the way home is often the toughest part of the ride and great support and comradeliness was displayed to get everyone back and kept together.

A really good preface to the riding required for Tour and team building exercise.  In the end the ride was 140kms and 1900m vertical ascent over 6hrs riding

To finish up we completed the ride back at our house for some well earned refreshmentsOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
