Day 2 – A Day to Remember

Victor Harbour to Meningie – 142 kms

Today was ANZAC Day – A day to remember…

We were honoured to attend the Victor Harbour dawn service on a cool chilly morning. The service started with the lone piper eerily playing his melodic tune. After that a local lady sang “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”…that did me…I had tears rolling down my cheek as I as listened to the haunting story of an ANZAC digger surviving Gallipoli to come home and struggle with life back in Australia as a fallen soldier.

The ceremony included many local singers and musicians sharing their talents in this, the 100 year anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli. The bugle played and the crowd sang. It was a special ANZAC Day Ceremony that I will never forget.

During the ceremony I also remembered.

I remembered the stories that my fellow Tour de Cure participants shared. How they survived treatment. How they lost love ones.

I remembered all the people I met whilst fund raising. Their stories and their generosity.

I remembered my cousin Stewart and my uncle Edward. Both lost in the last two years.

The tour is about remembering.

It also about taking that memory and making a positive stand against cancer. It is about knowing things will change.
