The Journey Begins

Hi All,

I have been overwhelmed by the words of encouragement and support I have received since I let everyone know I was participating in the Tour de Cure’s 2013 Signature Tour.

In less than 24 hours I have received numerous messages, along with donations, which I am very grateful for.

I have included my initial letter below for anyone who may have not received the original email I sent.

I will be using this blog to communicate with you all in the lead up to, as well as throughout, the event in April.

Please be sure to visit this site (www.mytourdecure.com.au/martind/) for further updates.

Thanks again for all your support.

“Dear Friends & Colleagues,

This April I will set off on a 1538km bike ride from Adelaide to Canberra to support cancer research and awareness.

I will be riding as part of the Tour de Cure’s Signature Tour where we will pedal our way through three states, a territory and the daunting Snowy Mountains!

While I have been a competitive athlete for more than 20 years, it has only been recently that I have used this passion to give back to such a worthwhile cause.

We are all touched by cancer in some form or another and the impact it has had on me personally, as well my family, friends and colleagues has motivated me to help out in this way.

Taking part in Tour de Cure’s NSW Regional ride last year provided me with a firsthand insight into the fantastic work done by this organisation.

I also met many people who are affected by cancer and heard about the hardships they are faced with, while at the same time seeing the positive impact the Tour De Cure has on these same people.

I must admit I am feeling a tad nervous about completing a ride of this magnitude, with steep climbs and tough conditions just a couple of the obstacles we will face along the way.

It will test me to my limits, both physically and emotionally, but it will be nothing compared to the many people who suffer with cancer.

I have committed to raise $12,000 to be part of the squad and would really appreciate your support in helping me reach this target.

I am really fortunate that my employer, Officeworks, is supporting me in completing this journey, while also supporting this charitable organisation.

While asking for donations does not come easy to me, I really believe in the Tour de Cure’s goal to “not only raise money to find a cure for cancer, but also to raise community awareness”.

Even if you are unable to make a financial donation, your support and words of encouragement will go a long way to helping me complete the ride.

If you are able to donate, click the yellow “Donate to me now” button on the top right corner of this email and your donation will go towards my tally.

Thanks for all your support.

Kind regards,
Martin Duffy
