Watta Ride ! ! ! ! ! !

It’s hard to believe we’ve been back over a week now … 10 days is a long time but the time flew!

It seemed like we’d just arrived in Adelaide & then before we knew it … we were rolling past Parliament House before riding into a wonderful reception by loved ones at Regatta Point on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin … Signature Tour 2013 was just a blur!

So much happened to us while we were in the Tour “ bubble “ … I have absolutely no idea what happened in the real world during those couple of weeks!

In the “bubble” we were focussed on the Whiteboard, the source of everything we needed to know for that day … and Victor did an outstanding job as the “Keeper of the Whiteboard.” Here’s a pic of half of the Whiteboard !!

whiteboard

The Whiteboard told us many things – which day we were up to, where the fundraising was up to, what colour kit to wear, who was the stage partner, time for breakfast, peleton departure times, which peloton you were in, your chores, your lead & rear cars as well as who was driving them, distance to morning tea & where, which schools we were visiting, distance to lunch & where, corporate visits & where, distance to afternoon tea & where, massage list, bike mechanic list, time for laundry at the whiteboard, time for dinner & where, as well as any special arrangements!

As you can see the Whiteboard focussed very much on food! Chris & Taylor from Canadian Kitchens … ably assisted by Marg & Pam … did an amazing job looking after all of us … so many mouths to feed. You really don’t want to come between food & hungry cyclists!

Apologies for all the exclamation marks … but there was just soooooooooo many things that were outstanding … it’s hard to explain the experience & even harder to try & put it down on paper

It’s kinda like trying to explain to someone what it’s like to have children or get married or run a small business or sit for your final exams at school or your first overseas trip … you can explain the mechanics of what goes on … but there’s so much more in & around that. The people you meet, the kids at the schools, the Tour De Cure Support Crew & riders, the community dinners each night … their stories, their support, their reasons.

As I said … it’s hard to believe we’ve been back over a week & still reflecting on so much of the journey … I kinda feel a bit selfish in some ways … ‘coz I get so much out of the experience on so many levels & we’re making a difference at the same time !

So many highlights … I’ll mention a few of those next time

Oooops … sorry … more exclamation marks

THANKS again for all your support

Cheers … Owen
