Adversity & Resilience …

Some time for reflection at the moment recovering from a little spill coming home on Sunday. Rolling along slowly close to home, oil on the bump in the road wet from the persistent drizzle for the first time in ages … the front wheel disappears underneath me … hit the deck landing on shoulder & hip.

Dropped the bike in for repairs & off to the Doc to get checked out. Once he stopped laughing (we’ve known each other for a while) he described this as “about a litre of blood & mashed muscle” … not sure that’s correct medical terminology!

Ouch !!!

It’s made me think about the headspace of people with cancer … the diagnosis I’d imagine would turn your world upside down … the treatment would put your life on hold … your prognosis depends on the form of cancer & your response to treatment … undergoing treatment you’d often feel like you’ve been run over by a truck … and no guarantee regarding the outcome.

Being forced to face your own mortality must affect you & your loved ones.

I’m in awe of people who face adversity and are able to adapt. To find their way through the process, find their answers, improve their self-knowledge, and come out the other side with an inner strength, a changed perspective, a resilience that enables them to cope, to find positive meaning in their life & to inspire others to meet their challenges.

Cancer is a journey on many levels – physically, emotionally & psychologically.

It can also teach us a lot !

‘til next time … take care

Cheers … Owen
