This weekend’s rides were fantastic, and an absolute challenge.

Saturday saw us joined by about 20 guest riders for the weekend, with us leaving Victor Harbour to a beautiful sunrise on Saturday morning.  We had a 140km day ahead of us on the way to Meningie.  Little did we know that 2 minutes out of town we would be hit with one hell of a head wind.  There we were for the first 2 hours riding head first into a gale battling it out at an average speed of about 21km/hr.  It was TOUGH!

As the day developed and after our first stop, we changed direction and had the wind at our backs.  Scenery was great which really helped lift everyones spirits.

Arriving into Meningie we were greeted by just about the entire town and had the challenge of finding our accomodation about 25km out of town.  3 of us were staying in this amazing place – and driving this awesome Lexus (fast) to get there was one hell of an experience.

The dinner that Meningie put on for us in their school hall was outstanding, with the town auctioneer raising additional funds for TDC through this entertaining half our auction.  Needless to say that one of the guys set a town record for paying over $750 for tray of cream puffs!

Day 3 started off ominously.  RAIN!  And I mean rain.  The first 2 hours on the bike were some of the most challenging riding we’ve done.  Cold and wet to start the day off wasn’t exactly ideal – but definitely part of the entire experience.

After the first break for morning tea we headed inland on our way to lunch.  The sun came out, smooth roads and a tail wind saw us riding at around 40km/hr.  This was definitely the best part of the day.

Keith (yes, a town) welcomed us for lunch at the 90km mark – halfway, and then the final stretch to Bordertown has us arriving at about 4pm.  A long day in the saddle – sore in places not worth mentioning, but extremely satisfied to have got through the 180km day feeling pretty good.

Tomorrow sees us leaving SA and heading int Victoria for the first time – let’s hope the weather works in our favour!
