About Sharpie

Yes, I’ve completed different challenges over the past couple of years, but this year’s Tour will definitely push me beyond my comfort zone.

In the past couple of years I’ve completed several half ironman triathlons and run the Sydney marathon (as well as about 10 half marathons).  Physical endurance events are fantastic, as is the training that goes along with it.  What the Tour presents to me this year is not only the training towards an awesome event, but doing this with a bunch of great people, and contributing something back to a fantastic cause that means a lot to me.

I lost my father to cancer in 2002.  He was only 56.  A young man!  It was only 6 months from diagnosis to death, and I saw such a massive and rapid decline in someone that I love I still cant understand it.  At the time the doctors didn’t know what they were treating, but knew it was an aggressive form of cancer.  Surgery was not an option – and the treatment he had to go through was terrible.

Causes like TDC provide funds for research, treatment and education programmes that will help work towards a cure for this terrible disease.  Cancer is something that everyone at some stage in their life will have some form of association with – and the sooner we can remove the possible death sentence associated with cancer the better off we’ll all be.

I’ll be training 4-5 times a week in the lead up to Tour, and you can follow my progress here.
