Passed $10,000 and the power of sharing a journey

This week was one of those weeks where you’re running at 100mph with work and almost oblivious to anything else going on around you.  The deal that I’ve been working on at work, which we were trying to close on Thursday didn’t happen and we’re now forced to start over and ramp up again for another go at it in the coming months.

This brief respite in corporate life this week gave me a bit of time to refocus and think about what really matters, family, friends and trying to make a difference.  I have to say at the moment, I’m not juggling all of it that well and there are times when you get that sudden reality check.  Several things this week have made Dad’s loss hit home.  It can be as simple as watching a TV show that you know you would have talked about afterwards, but more so for me its that sense of responsibility that I now feel for the family.  It’s a period of adjustment and to be honest its quite stressful.

The Tour de Cure is giving me a hugely important focus right now, the sense of purpose in working towards something that remembers Dad is hugely important.  This week Mum formally got accepted as support crew for the Tour which is fantastic.  For her and me, it’s going an important journey where I hope we can do something that provides a level of closure and comfort following Dad’s passing.

It’s the fundraising for the Tour where I’ve been amazed by what can be achieved by sharing a story.  This week I’ve passed $10,000 in sponsorship, with much more to come.  People and businesses that I work with have been hugely generous.  I’d like to thank Evalesco, a Financial Planning company for their support and also my close colleagues and friends at Salesforce.com.  There are also friends that I don’t see that often who have been enormously generous and mentioned that they have felt a connection to the cause.

For anyone that sponsors me for this cause, you’re make it so much more worthwhile.  Those days when you don’t feel like training in the rain, you do.  Those days you question whether you’re making a real difference, I’m reassured we are.  Thank you.
