3 Days to Go

Wow 3 days to go, it only seems like yesterday that I was accepted as a Guest Rider on the 2014 Signature Tour. On Wednesday morning Janene and I set off for our drive to Sydney before joining the Team on Thursday evening for the Community Welcome Dinner.

On Friday morning Guest Riders make their way to Camden south of Sydney where we will be met by the Signature Tour Riders as the Tour starts at Channel 7’s Sunrise Breakie Central in Martin Place. We will ride from Camden to Moss Vale in the NSW Southern Highlands, with a school visit scheduled for Colo Vale Primary School. A community dinner will be held during the evening and at each community dinner on Tour a $5,000 .00 cheque will be presented to a local cancer research, support of prevention project that directly helps the community.Guest Rider

On Saturday we will ride from Moss Vale to Canberra the Nationals Capital with a school visit scheduled for Tarago Primary School. During each school visit on Tour the Team will share Tour de Cure’s ‘Be Fit – Be Healthy – Be Happy, cancer awareness message with school kids.

The lead up to the start of tour has been a fantastic journey, where in the past 16 weeks I have been training for this event and riding stronger and longer every day. With the training complete the bike has had a complete make over as it too needs to be ready. New cables, brakes, tyres and environmental clean, it’s like brand new again and rides like a dream.Sandgate Bike

I have had some fantastic support from family, friends and work colleagues during my fundraising endeavours culminating with a free dress day being held at QT Mutual Bank and all funds raised going to my fundraising tally.

Last Friday I had fantastic fundraiser at my local coffee hangout Stellarossa Green Square in Fortitude Valley where they donated 50c for each coffee sold during the day and I also had a collection tin as well. 441 coffees were sold between 6:00 am and 4:00 pm their best coffee trading day ever. To see the support from the wonderful staff and customers was fantastic.

I also had the support from Paul EganMartyn and Paul a veteran of Tour de Cure riding in his 5th Tour this year and Jodi Harris riding in her 1st full tour having previously ridden the QLD Country Tour and was a member of the Support Crew for the 2013 Signature Tour.Martyn Jodi

Rapping up before we head to Sydney we could not have done this without the support of our family, friends and other tour members that have been able to share their journey. A big thank you to Jodi Harris for opening her home last Saturday hosting dinner to farewell the QLD Riders and Support Crew. A fantastic surprise was the TdC cheesecake that Paul’s wife Kathryn brought along complete with the TdC Logo.
