O’Reillys ride – 180km

Part of training for a long ride such as the Tour de Cure involves doing long training rides. The longest stint on the Tour de Cure this year is the 239km leg between Thredbo and Albury. During this day we will have climbed 3102 metres so its important to make sure that there are lots of hills in this years training.

The O’Reillys ride started from the Hyperdome in Loganholme and snaked its way towards the hills that O’Reillys sits on top of. Three of us started the ride (Byron, Michael and myself) and we were joined by another group who wanted to do a shorter distance.

The ride to Cunungra is a great one with relatively flat going for most of the way. After a rest and a feed papered by our fantastic Lynda (TDC support crew) we traveled onto the mountain. The next 25 km was a mixture of between 4% and 15% incline and really tested our fitness.

Byron was the king of the mountain today but he will have to watch out next time as I have been including some more hills into my training from now on.
