Day 5: Horsham to Bendigo

Today was the longest day on this year’s Tour; 215km from Horsham to Bendigo. A tough day on the road, but these are the days we train for and the challenge keeps everyone on their game. We’ve now ridden in excess of 800km in 5 days which means we’re over half way to Canberra! Tomorrow we have a short (?) 170 km day … The big challenge is to back up today’s ride with yet another big day … stretches, nutrition, hydration and sleep will all help us do this – however there will be quite a few riding in a fair degree of discomfort! So far both body and bike seem to be holding together and performing as required … fingers crossed that continues through to Canberra. I’m pretty shattered as I write this so the update will be short as sleep is calling loudly now!

The biggest news of the day involved TDC’s fundraising; so far in this financial year we’ve raised in excess of $2 million. TDC’s total fundraising over the last 6.5 years now exceeds $10m. To mark the occasion each rider received a special jersey which all will wear with pride tomorrow. This is a massive achievement which we celebrated (in an appropriate manner this evening.

Apologies for the short update however I’m tired and we have another early start tomorrow. May thanks for the messages of support and donations that continue to come in.
