About Me

In April I’ll be one of 65 riders who’ll cover the 1,540 km’s from Adelaide to Canberra over 10 days. The ride obviously represents a serious physical challenge, especially as this year’s route takes us through the Snowy Mountains. The long days with distances sometimes exceeding 200 km’s will be painful, as will the training required to enable us to complete the rides and then back up the next day, however neither compare to the challenge faced by those battling cancer.Sarah ...

The principle reason for my involvement with TDC has not changed; March 16th will mark three years since Sarah’s passing. Sarah fought her battle with Melanoma in the only way she knew; with energy, optimism and a smile on her face. Given what Sarah went through during the course of her treatment, I feel it’s my responsibility as one of healthy one’s to do what I can to prevent others suffering in the same way. As always I will ride with Sarah in my heart, and as always Sarah will be by my side as I ride. I will ride to honour Sarah’s memory, however this year my motivation is broader.

The most powerful aspects of being involved with Tour de Cure are the people we meet, the stories we hear and the communities we visit. One example; on Day 8 of last year’s Katie ...Tour we visited Magnetic Island and met Katie-Lee. Katie had been diagnosed with Melanoma and the prognosis from her medical team was not good. Katie spoke about her determination to survive, to see her young daughter Violet grow up, she even explained how in some sense she was grateful to cancer for the amazing opportunities it provided her with. Katie’s passion and enthusiasm for life shone through that night, she touched the hearts of all who were present. Sadly passion, determination and state of the art medical care were not enough – Katie passed away in October 2012. I will therefore also be riding for Katie–Lee, and for the many others who have fought, or are fighting, the battle of their lives. Above all else, I will ride to do what I can to help find a cure for Cancer.

As a condition of riding the Tour, each rider makes a personal contribution of $1,750 to cover the cost of their participation. Each rider is then required to fundraise an additional $10,000+. I need your help to achieve this target; you don’t have to pedal, but your financial support would be greatly appreciatedTo donate, simply click the yellow “donate” button to the top right of this page and your donation will go against my total. Fundraising $10,000 is a daunting prospect, however with your support I will make it.
