TDC Sydney to Hobart Completed – 10 Days, 1,600 km’s, 20,000 metres & 5,000 kids

Firstly a sincere thank you for supporting my 2014 Tour which I proudly finished in Hobart on Sunday April 6th. This years Tour has raised over $2.5 mm to date, has seen us introduce our Cancer awareness and prevention message to over 5,000 kids on route and award over $50,000 to communities through the Tours evening events.

Kids on Tour

I was particularly struck by the many personal stories of how some of our riders have survived their own Cancer challenges. And equally we were buoyed by hearing about the good work that research institutions are leading to improve survival rates – progress continues and it was good to learn about where the Tours donations go in making a difference.

Visiting Country communities was a highlight in seeing how connected these communities are. Our Swansea visit in Tasmania was very special with the Town sponsoring the whole event and sharing the best of their area’s local produce. Tasmania was particularly beautiful and the weather very supportive for us.

The riding was very difficult some days and the 10 days of over 1600 km’s takes its toll on us all. The many new riders who joined this year’s Tour were greeted with us climbing over 20,000 meters this Tour – a phenomenal job by them in staying the course day after day. We had bout of gastro go through the group affecting up to 5 riders but they managed to “soldier on” and join for the final roll into Hobart.

Hobart Finish

I rode this 2014 year with the Woolworth’s team ably led by Justin Pratt and supported by two of their store managers, Tony Corelli and David Halliwell. They were joined by Grant Harrod, Clint Bowen and myself on bikes and in service Julie Benjamin and Cora Zillich. The support team are integral to everything that happens and they manage an amazing degree of complexity – thank you support for keeping us safe and sound.

Wollies team

Again thank you for supporting my efforts on fundraising for a cause I feel strongly about. And now it’s the most exciting day as I get to see the family again after a long 10 days away – their support for me doing this has been much appreciated and I can’t wait to see them back in Sydney.

Till next year, perhaps!

Sincerely

Phil
