Winter in Feb??

Today was cold. Had an extra layer on, and arm warmers. Who would have thought that we’d be rugged up as though it’s mid autumn in early Feb, only 2 days after the insane humidity on Friday morning.

The ride was awesome! Met at Maisys for coffee at 5.20am (yes, on a Sunday morning). At first I thought it was only going to be a couple of us – with Luke the only other starter turning up at the same time. Anyway, 20 minutes later we had at least 15 of us, and headed north.

DK and Simmo led the way all the way to Hornsby, and the pace was great. There were a few complaints from the back of the peleton – and a bunch of personal records set.

First stop was at Berowra for a drink bottle fill up, and to meet a couple of extras that were joining us from the north-west – and then we kicked on to Calga. The climb up Mount White was a nice relaxed pace and done in a group.

On the turn, we suddenly realised we’d be into a head-wind on the way home. Not ideal, especially when you’ve already got 65k’s under the belt and only halfway there. Didn’t end up being that bad.

The climb up Brooklyn was solid, with the group splitting up and climbing at their own pace. I was 5th up, and then a decent stop for a coke and refuel at Pie in the Sky.

After stopping for 10-15 minutes you really realise how cold it was. I reckon around 16-17 degrees. There was a discussion about doing Bobbin Head – which we all thought was a great idea!!! Especially at 110k into a ride……

A good climb up Bobbo’, with only 3 ahead of me this time, and then the ‘cruise’ down Pacific Hwy.

I was starving by the end, and definitely felt like I earnt the double shot coffee and bacon and egg roll with loads of bbq sauce.

Ride was 132k total, 1700m of climbing, and a total time on the bike of just on 4.5 hours. I’m going to sleep well tonight!
