Tour de Cure Day 1 Sydney to Bundanoon

Soaked!
Hi and welcome to my blog of Tour de Cure’s 2014 Signature Tour.
Pretty excitied this morning at Martin Place where the riders and crew gathered before dawn for a pre ride briefing, breakfast and some air time on tv. I was proud to be part of the team in the background when CBA presented a $75,000 cheque to Tdc.
We rolled out of Martin Place about 8am…and the rain began. Just drizzle…but still enough to keep us on our toes.
It was an uneventful ride to Camden, where we visited St Pauls Primary School and the kids were unbelievably excited to see us. They were fantastic.
Lunch and then onto Colo Vale. And then the rain started. It hammered down. We got soaked and it was a little bit of a challenge navigating the back roads. Unfortunately we were a little late and missed the kids at the school. The after school kids were still there and they were thrilled to see us, especially the Sunrise guys. Or should I say the Mum’s were thrilled to see the Sunrise guys. Many shots were taken…especially by the Mum’s!! .Rolled the last 40kms into Bundanoon 160 odd km’s done. Only 1400 odd to go! Then it was time for the Community dinner. I have come now to expect inspirational stories from these guys, but the highlight for me tonight was hearing Professor John Rasko talk to us about the world leading research he and his colleagues are doing into genetics and the links to Cancer. Much of their equipment has been acquired by funding from TDC and they recently published a world first in Cell magazine which has potentially revolutionised the way we think about the genetic link between cancer and DNA. It was amazing…and I was honoured to be there and know that the funds I have raised so far  ( and donated kindly by you!) will go to amazing research like that. The whole feel of the Tour so far is one of trust, team spirit and collaboration. It is a wonderful experience. Bring on tomorrow and Canberra!!! Love to you all, especially my 3 beautiful girls.
