TDC Day 2 Bundanoon – Canberra

Priveleged.
Hello and welcome to the nation’s capital.

We started the day today under gloomy and misty skies and rolled out of the Southern Tablelands about 7am. CBA were in the first peleton of the day and we rolled well out of Bundanoon heading 168kms to Canberra. The sun began to peek through and the peleton rolled along some lovely roads and past some gorgeous scenery.

I had the privelege during this section to ride with Dr Lucas Clark, an eminent radiologist based in Sydney. His work was inspiring, but also heartbreaking as he explained to me the regularity of having to break the worst possible news to someone.

We rolled to Tarago where the Principal of the school had arranged for the children to come in on a Saturday. They were so excited to see us. We played handball with the kids ( who are SHARKS!! unbeatable!) and then presented our Be Fit, Be Healthy , Be Happy message. During the presentation one little guy ( not a day over 5 I reckon) set the challenge to some of the TDC guys to match him in push ups. He was knee high to a grasshopper and just kept banging them out till he was blue in the face and trembling. Guts from the little fella!

We then rolled to Canberra with a couple of nice climbs and a great run into home.

After some chores, a welcome shower and a fizzy amber beverage we made our way to dinner. Another inspirational evening including a presentation of a cheque for over $530K by Life Technologies to Tour De Cure, and a toast to a former member of the TDC crew who passed away tragically at the age of 22 from lymphoma. His mother supports us on Tour every day. There was not a dry eye in the house.

We also had the privelege of being joined by three CBA colleagues here in Canberra.  Thank you Cameron, Kaitlyn and Bree for coming. I hope you got a great feeling for what it is all about and why we ride.

My theme today has been one of privelege. I am priveleged to be here, I am priveleged to meet these people and be embraced into their fold, I am priveleged to ride with them, to support them and I am priveleged to have a wonderful happy and healthy family. These are not things I am taking for granted.

So..on to the Snowy Mountains tomorrow. Time for some shut eye.

All my best. df

ps: keep those messages of support coming. They really do make a difference.
