TDC Day 4 Adaminaby – Corryong

Community

Hi everyone and thanks very much for reading my blog. It’s great to read all your comments and support. It certainly is something to look forward to everyday.

So Day 4 promised a shorter route (140kms) but our first real test in terms of vertical climbing. 1950 vertical metres is certainly challenging. The terrain, whilst picturesque was undulating.

CBA were in P1 today, meaning a very early start to be in Adaminanby town centre for the first Sunrise cross of the day and breakfast. It was freezing cold up there in the Snowy Mountains I can assure you.

We rolled out about 7am as the sun rose to the west and it was an absolute pleasure to ride. It was very cold, but glorious. The scenery was simply breathtaking as we climbed out of the town and made our way toward the Great Divinding Range. If anyone was watching Sunrise between 6-7 this morning you might have heard Sam Armytage say she “could not believe Berrets hadn’t hit a kangaroo yet”. Cheers Sam…as a result of that comment we had two near misses on our trip to Cambarana. They were close…those things are unpredictable at best!

We made good time and then had our first break in Cambarana. Not sure population size, but school size…7. They were stoked to see us. We then climbed out of there and on to our large climb of the day…5kms at about 12%. It was pretty taxing and we were all glad to be at the summit eventually. A beautiful spin down the range to the bottom of the Kosiusko National Park for lunch , and then a final spin in to Corryong. Next week they are having the “Man from Snowy River” festival here as this is the resting place of Jim Irvine..”the Man”..who died in 1914.

Great riding, great weather…it was a pleasure to be here.

Tonight though was a blast. I should have realised the town would be making an effort when we rode past “Tour de Cure welcome to Corryong” signs as we rode in.

200 people came to the dinner. There were donations a plenty from the CWA, the Lions Club and Rotary. We presented a cheque to the Corryong Hospital for thier palliative care service.

Corryong was fantastic..and the community got right into the spirit. If you know anything about a CWA..they love to bake. One of the ladies was apparently famous for her scones and her sponge…they were auctioned for $1300. Another lady had a fruit cake in her car that she was taking to her sister’s. She bought it inside…$1000 to Tdc. Wow. There was dancing. The hall was abuzz.

TdC is not just about the riding. It is about spreading awareness and helping the communities we visit fight cancer.

More hills tomorrow I hear. Better get some shut eye. Night all.

All my best df
