Day 2 Bundanoon to Canberra

Today greeted us with overcast skies…but no rain. The opportunity for a dry day had everyone buoyed with enthusiasm as we headed out of Bundanoon for 167ks and 1500m of elevation to Canberra. I must say the night at the old Bundanoon Hotel with trains roaring past, two to a room made fr a night of broken sleep…never a great ingredient when facing  another big day in the saddle. Today we were split into 3 pelotons with Team Woolworths scheduled to leave last, following channel weatherman, James Tobin, last cross at 9.00. Both James and Mark Beretta are doing the ride and their morning TV roles from each of our start locations. The support from the Sunrise breakfast show is fantastic, helping our fund raising and giving us great visibility on the road.

The trip down to Canberra was incident free, just another long day in the saddle. Our scheduled lunch stop was at the very small town of Taralgo, who had all turned out to greet us, which created a great atmosphere. These small country towns have such incredible community spirit. Following lunch we then continued on our way, farewelled by a bunch of bikies at the Loaded Gun Hotel. We eventually made it into Canberra by 5pm, just avoiding the rain. Our community dinner included a great overview of the support we provide to the Ludwig Institute (part of Olivia Newton John’s cancer care clinic in Melbourne) and one of the research doctors from the Centenary Institute, into blood cancers and the work they are doing around genome research. Bone of our corporate partners, Life Technology. Also announced a $500k donation in equipment and cash to the tour….incredible generosity from one of the leading medical technology coy’s.

Tomorrow we head off to Adiminaby, another 160k ride.
