Day 4 Adaminaby to Corroyong

Day 4 was listed as one of our really ‘big’ days as we had to tackle 2700m of climbing as we crossed over the Great Dividing Range and one of the highest points in Australia at 1500m elevation. So the combination of solid climbing and higher altitude, there was some apprehension amongst the team. The morning greeted us with clear skies and cool temps….zero degrees to be precise as we headed out of Adiminaby.

Leaving at dawn always presents a risk in the country….kangaroos are very active. We hadn’t gone 10ks before we encountered a bunch of Roos’ on the side of the road., with deciding to head towards the bunch…fortunately changing direction at the last minute.

We continued to summit over the Dividing Range without further incident, arriving into the small town of Cabramurra. Here we had our first school presentation to 8 kids….these towns are tiny.

Following our school presentation we then tackled our biggest climb of some 6ks at an avg of 8%. Couple of our bunch were struggling so provided the old ‘hand of god’ to get them over. Tour is all about getting us all to the finish. We then had a spectacular descent to lunch by the side of the road, with the Snowy Mtns providing a sensational backdrop. Another 30ks and we rolled into the small town, and the nights accomodation, of Corroyong.

Corroyong is famous fr the ‘Man from Snowy River’, famous Aust poem by a horseman called Jack Riley. As it turns out next weekend is the 100 year anniversary of his death. So the town has a large festival to celebrate. Where stockman will drive over 50 wild brumbies into town.

The local community laid on a spectacular dinner, with 100 locals joining us.  Great evening and we gave a cheque to the local hospital.
