Day 1 Sydney to Bundanoon

160kms in the rain adds another dimension to a 1,600km ride! Aside from being cold, wet, brakes, don’t work, hard to see and generally uncomfortable, wet weather also brings flat tyres…..over 15! Which provided for an exceptionally slow day with constant stop/starts, meaning we got to spend a lot longer in the saddle than planned. Anyway we ticked off the first day. The send off from C7 Sunrise show in Martin Place was sensational, with family & well wishers providing a rousing departure. Prior to leaving I had the opportunity to have a long chat with Dr Charlie Teo to understand what Tour de Cure means for him and his team at St Vincent’s. He confirmed without our support much of the advanced research work he’s doing would not be possible. Great to know we are making a difference. Charlie was most disappointed he had to attend a couple of emergency cases so could not join us on the ride to Bundanoon….on his motorbike!

on our journey we had got share our ‘Be Fit, Be Healthy & Be Happy’ message with two schools. The interaction with the kids is always a highlight of the tour and this year we plan to present to over 4,500 school kids. Tomorrow we have another 160k day and 2,000m of climbing as we make our way to Canberra. Fingers x’d the weather improves.
