Day 8 Devonport to Launceston

Day 8 and we’ve arrived into our 3rd state – Tasmania.  Passage across from Melbourne was a little rocky but no where near as bad as the Bass Strait could be. Most of the tour managed to get a good sleep with our team Dr’s dispensing sea sickness tablets to those feeling a little uncomfortable. We docked into Devonport @5.15am. Whilst all passengers disembarked we would spend another 2 hours on the boat,  rolling off on live TV @8am.

Today’s stage of 137kms and 1,600 meters if climbing would take us from Devonport to Launceston on the north west coast of Tasmania. Our first stop, 35kms down the road, was school presentation at the primary school in the small village of Sheffield, nestled at the base of Cradle Mountain. The kids were fantastic and lined the school driveway to give us a great welcome. It was team Woolworth’s role to do the presentation, which is always a lot of fun interacting with the kids.

One of the great aspects of the tour is the support we receive from channel 7’s Sunrise TV show, are the number of spectators on the side of the road waving us on.
From Sheffield we then headed 70kms to another small village, Hagley and another cancer awareness presentation to the local primary school. Our route would take us through the Meander Valley, which was just stunning. Large mountain ranges and heavily wooded forests.
Following lunch at Hagley we then rolled 30kms into Launceston and ab afternoon with the Camp Quality kids at Royal Park on the Tamar River. Upon arrival into the city fringes we were met by the local constabulary…on bicycles! Was great to have them block intersections to allow us to roll through to the park.
Tomorrow we head down the east cost, to the beautiful seaside village of Swansea, around 140kms from Devonport.
