Guest Ride completed –

HI all,

My part of the ride is over. After watching the full tour riders start in Adelaide on Friday, I then rode myself down to Victor Harbor to get there by 1230pm. Great 100km ride, as it did have some tailwind, so around 3 hours riding time. I passed the group at the bottom of Old Willunga Hill as they had a stop to set up KOM timing on the famous Tour Down Under Old Willunga Hill.

The tour blog is a great read of each days wrap up. https://www.tourdecure.com.au/blog/

Of all the trick bikes people had, mine took the prize of he retro. My early-nineties Eurosport with full Campagnola Super Record sparked quite a bit of attention, but it pass the mechanic scrutineering with flying colours, noting that my bike will keep going long after all the carbon-fibre and latest technology on modern bikes wear out or break.

Met some great people on  the first afternoon, and he evening meal was really good to see how the event was to pan out.

Saturday – spent the first few hours cycling with Kevin Russell (CEO Optus) who like my bike because of it predominantly being bright yellow (Optus colours) Read the tour blog for the ride details, but 40kph head/side winds for the first 40km, before then changing directing and getting some advantage with more tail wind (or a broad reach in sailing terms!)

Saturday night after 150km ride to Meningie was fantastic – They did a fantastic job of welcoming us and food/night was great. All the riders from all different walks of life really got on well together – with a few contributing to the local watering hole with a cleansing ale before dinner.

Sunday ride of 180km between Meningie and Bordertown, saw rain/wind for the first 50km along the Coorong before heading inland and weather started clearing up.

Great night at Bordertown at the footy club, and then Monday morning we got to visit Bordertown school. The kids were great and they made posters, had us signing them – feeling like rock-stars!

Morning live crosses to sunrise with Mark Beretta doing the ride got some good TV exposure.

So after my 430km over the 3 days, me and about 20 of the guest riders jumped in a bus, and headed back to Adelaide. 3 locals where home, and the others flew out interstate. One was Jonno Webb, who was heading straight to Perth to head his V8 car racing team to drive in the next round. Good friends were made all round. Great trip.

Thanks to all who contributed and I got well past my target with currently sitting just over $4100 as my contribution to the $2M raised just this year, taking the total to over $10M over the five years. Great effort for a great cause!

Thanks
