Great way to start a weekend … ?

Total Rides: 9

Total Distance: 593 km

Total Ascent: 7,153 m

Well there was a time when being out at 5 on a Saturday morning meant too much Friday fun … these days it’s more likely to be that we’ve got a very early training ride! That was certainly the case this morning as we were riding south to Waterfall, on the edge of the Royal National Park. For me, meeting at the Harbour Bridge at 5 means getting up sometime before 4, forcing down some breakfast and then heading across the city to meet the other riders committed/daft enough to be up for a ride at this time in the morning!

To be honest though, once you’re up it’s actually pretty cool to be riding when most of the city is either asleep or staggering home from their Friday night activities – we certainly see a few interesting sights as we ride through Kings Cross at 5 in the morning! It’s a great feeling to have over 100km in the legs by early morning with the rest of the day to recover; theĀ missed sleep and early starts areĀ all part of the training for Tour. Yes training’s tough, but it’s nothing compared to what those battling cancer go through.
