I dedicate this Tour to my Dad
Last week was the 3rd anniversary of losing my Dad to lung and brain cancer. It was a horrible way to die. His was one of the 1 in 3 preventable cancer’s that we talk about in our “Be Fit, Be Happy, Be Healthy” message.
He grew up in a generation where the true dangers of smoking were not even considered. Given the gruesome stuff they print on the cigarette packets now, you would be stupid to take it up. Thankfully it is more anti social to be a smoker now, unlike in his younger days.
I also lost my Mum when I was 19 years old in a car accident so it’s been tough. It has made me very determined though to make the most of everything and “Live Life”. You never quite know what is around the next corner.
I can’t explain what it is like on Tour to the newbies, they will just have to experience it. All I can say is it is like nothing else and just so, so enriching. The ‘Team’ are beyond awesome, the school visits are so much fun, community dinners are special, and of course the riding is memorable!! Only 33 days to go now, and I am so looking forward to it all.
So this week was a recovery week on the bike. I have cycled 321km with 2,783m climbing. Going to be needing fresh legs for next week’s smash fest!! Had a great ride this morning with Cory Morris and Daren Armstrong.
Fundraising is kicking along well and I am now only $750 off required target of $12,000, but of course am aiming for more. I have a static ride planned at my local Woolies in a few weeks, so hope to get heaps then! Until next week ……….
