Day 1 Signature Tour

Sydney to Bundanoon -169km, 2,000m elevation and loads of rain!!

Todays blog is not going to be too detailed as our team has been on laundry duty and we are only just finished and it’s past midnight.  Our team luckily gets to sleep in until 6.30am.  As we were in the last peloton to arrive tonight, we were late to dinner, late to start laundry and late to bed. Today has been a huge day that started at 4.30am.  Headed into Martin Place which is where Sunrise is televised from.  Waited around until 8.30am until the last Sunrise sports cross (from Mark Beretta, who is a five time Tour legend) and then the slow journey out of Sydney town.  It had started raining just as we departed.  As a result of this you tend to experience lots of punctures.  I think in our peloton alone (#3) there was around 15.  When this happens you slow to mechanical speed, so there was lots of slow riding, which just means more hours in the saddle in the rain!!

All pelotons were running late for the same reason.  We were a little late for our first school visit, but by the second one the kids had gone home!!  It is so awesome to roll into the first school and get a rock star welcome!!  They all get so excited.

I was awarded the yellow jersey for Attitude last night at our team dinner.  This was mainly because I started up a closed Facebook group for the 2014 Signature Tour team, and it has worked out really well.  It’s also cause I have a kick ass attitude!!  It’s a great accolade to receive one so I am very grateful.

So I am feeling great after day one, and looking forward to (hopefully) a dry day tomorrow.  As a team we have now raised over $2 million for this Tour.  The goal is $3 million, so keep those donations coming in. We had two medical gurus medical researchers in oncology) come in to our dinner tonight to tell us where they were spending the $150,000 that was donated to them.  It’s awesome when you can see the benefits of what we do.

Have met even more amazing people today and yesterday, and caught up with old friends from last year.  Such an awesome bunch of individuals.

Off to sleep now. xxx
