Day 3 Signature Tour
Canberra to Adaminaby – 176km, 2,292m elevation, 6hr 50min ride time.
Todays ride took us through some awesome scenery. The weather was pretty kind to us with the exception of a little bit of rain before lunch. We had a few mechanicals along the way which slows the peloton down, plus we needed to slow up a little for some people who were feeling it a little (there has been a bit of a tummy bug).
We stopped for lunch in Cooma, which is very pretty country town. Yet again some amazing food from our caterers. I have been having treatment along the way for an inflamed muscle in my right shoulder. Funny that I have trained my legs to be effective riding machines, and then an obscure part of my body decides to give me pain and discomfort along the way. This actually started about one week before tour, which is disappointing given I have been training hard for 3 months and it was all going beautifully!! I am surviving on Voltaren tablets and gel, plus Deep Heat and Tiger Balm. It is rather painful by the time I get to lunch and end of day stops when the drugs wear off.
We had a long climb after lunch, where we had lots of support en route up the hill, and at the top of the hill as well. So nice to have a cheer squad. This was one of the highlights of when I was in the support role on the 2013 Signature Tour. It is so nice to be on the bike this year, which is where I belong.
Tonights dinner was hosted by Daren Armstrong and David Halliwell, who are fellow Queensland riders. Both of them have been touched by cancer personally. It has been great getting to know them pre Tour on our training rides and fundraising functions.
Tomorrow is our biggest climbing day, so it’s going to be a tough one. Watch this space!!!
