It is a fair bit easier than last year’s tour from Sydney to Hobart (well at least I am hoping it is!!).  There is less kilometres and much less climbing over big hills, like the Snowies!!  The most exciting thing for me is that I get to tick something off the bucket list, and that is to ride along the Great Ocean Road.  I have driven this road plenty of times, but really want to see it on my trusty bike.  Cross everything that you have that we have kind weather and can actually enjoy the view!!

Since 1 January this year I have cycled 3,471km in preparation for this Tour.  I am still nursing an issue with my knee, but am certain that I will be able to complete Tour, and then have the rest that my physio says I need to have to heal it.  Can you believe that it is an overuse issue?!!

Last Saturday Cory Morris and I held our big fundraising event – the Tour de Cure Trivia Night.  After loads of work it turned out to be a really worthwhile event and loads of fun was had by all.  We raised around $12,300 and solidly spread the TdC message to around 120 people.  We were helped out by many friends and family, plus a big chunk of our awesome TdC family.

We had bad news on Sunday that one of our SEQ riders (David Halliwell) was in an accident and is now out of the Tour.  It is a reminder that we put so much time and effort into preparing for Tour,

but it can also be dangerous for us.  We all wish he was with us as he is a big inspiration, especially since he is a cancer survivor.

Well I am off to bed.  I will get up again at 4.30am and go for my last spin around the riverloop with some of the TdC riders, and my own cycling group.  We head to Adelaide on Wednesday to immerse ourselves in the Tour bubble (which is this amazing phenomena that envelops you whilst on Tour.  It is indescribable!!).

Be sure to follow my journey via Facebook and my blog.  I will try to keep you all up to date, in between cycling a very long way, doing school presentations, community dinners, and having some rest!!

As a final note, I want to thank all the people who have supported my to this point – my family, my donator’s, my friends for their support, my cycling buddies, and sometimes just ‘random’ people who show they care in some way.  Thank you all – you inspire me to continue the good work that TdC do.

As Jens would say – #shutupcancer
