A great start to 2014
I am back from a great 2 weeks off the bike, enjoying the sun, sand, good food, and way too much wine. It was an opportune time to rest the niggling knee soreness that I have been carrying for the past few months.
I have had a professional bike fit and a physio session to ensure that everything is all ready to go. The first few rides back I was a little doubtful, but the last week has been great. Have cycled 334km in the past week, and done a few hill sessions, which I was a little scared about given my dodgy knee.
Climbed Mt Nebo and followed it up with a river loop yesterday, getting in a good 112km session with almost 1900 metres of climbing. Whilst atop Mt Nebo we stopped for a breather, some had a coffee, and I got acquainted with the local wildlife.
We are trying to get some rides set up for the Brisbane based riders (and support who ride) so that we can give one another that extra push. It always looks great when you get a bunch of TdC riders all out in their kit – very smart looking bunch! I am trying to follow the 16 week training program as set by some of the Tour veterans. I am very aware that this will the Tour with the mostest – that is the most elevation, or in other words there will lots of big bloody hills to climb.
Feeling great on the bike though, and just need to do some more fundraising too. Have I said just how much I really love to be a part of the whole TdC experience? I was telling someone just today how much it has enriched my life since becoming involved almost 2 years ago. It’s not just the organisation, it’s the people you meet along the way. Such an awesome experience!
