Ready to go with only 11 days until start!
This past week I have eased up on the training a little, had the bike serviced, Warren changed my tyres, accommodation and flights finalised, and I had a good hard massage to make sure my body is in tip top shape (with another booked in this coming week).
Mediocrity does not sit well with me. I would say I am fiercely determined! It is what makes me get up morning after morning after morning in the dark to push my body hard. Funnily enough I am not a morning person, so I know that I will enjoy easing back to normal riding days after Tour!! I think I have trained well and followed the TdC training program very closely. I just hope my body copes with 10 days straight on the bike, which includes lots of climbing!
I had an awesome ride yesterday with David Halliwell up in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. When you are riding hills it might hurt the legs and make the heart burn, but then you get to the top and see the most awesome views!! It was a beautiful day out and was topped off by a visit en route to the Daniel Morcombe memorial. Such a sad series of events.
I have climbed loads of hills around south east Queensland whilst doing all of this training. Since 1 January these include Mt Gravatt (x35), Mt Cootha (x5), Mt Nebo (x3), Mt Glorious, Noosa Hill (x7), O’Reilly’s, Mt Mee, Bald Knob, Mt Petrie, Mt Cotton, and Montville. I have cycled 4,051km, climbed 41,822m elevation, done over 54 rides taking up 149 hours and 53 minutes in the saddle. It scares me a little to think that we will be climbing around 19,000m in just 10 days!!
I have enjoyed the fundraising as well, as you get to have some fun, meet loads of people, and be pleasantly surprised at the generosity of people who are near and dear to you. I will end up going way past my goal of $15,000, which I am very happy about. Big thank you to Irene at My Sweetopia South Brisbane who offered to hold a high tea for me this Sunday 23rd to help with fundraising. How awesome is that?? I am looking forward to this event immensely.
Also have to say a big congratulations to my young man Aidan on his 2nd at Head of the River on Saturday. I am very proud of him, his crew and coach. I think it is a huge undertaking for a 15 year old to get up 4 mornings per week at 4.30am to row. Good on you mate!!
