7 Weeks to Go!

Time is really flying at the moment, only 7 weeks to the start of the 2016 tour.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, and the next month isn’t going to be any better. This week I head to New Orleans for a week with the expectation that I can get some indoor training done before getting back to Oz in time for Easter. Feels strange that it is so early this year.

Below is a photo from the amazing team at Vittoria where we held a lunch time fund raiser on Friday. The slider food truck kept the staff at Vittoria well fed and their amazing generosity was once again on show.

A massive thank you to Cass and Bella for all the organisation and promotion of the day, and Rolando and Les for the incredible generosity in matching the staff contributions. Over $2100 raised on the day.

A few more exciting opportunities to pursue this week prior to heading to the USA. My current total is just over $30,000 which is great, but still a long way from where I want to be.

A massive thank you also to Shape who have agreed to sponsor the teams Mullet representing a $10,000, which will push my total over $40,000.

Training has been going reasonably well, although not as consistent as past years. The odd session has been missed due to fatigue, but the weekends rides confirmed I am on target with some great rides that included some double up climbs (two times up two of the bigger climbs) in the National Park that got the heart rate pumping.

For those that followed last year’s tour or watched the Channel 7 special you will recall Shelli Whitehurst and her battle with cancer. Well this week she received some great news that after a short period on a new trial drug her tumours have remained stable, ie no growth, and there is an expectation that in the next few weeks there could be some reduction in the size of the tumours, a truly great outcome for Shelli, and other potential recipients of this new trial drug.

This is just further evidence of why we do what we do, and the need to keep raising funds. Tour De Cure have funded 18 cancer breakthroughs, so the more we raise the more that can be done.

Thanks
