One week to go…

Well it’s getting exciting now, less than a week to the start of tour. For me I have a little longer to wait due to my trip to Phoenix this week, but it’s still exciting.

We received our kit this week, which is always fun. The new style is going to look great on the road and even better on camera. There is definitely a strong pink theme this year, the colour of inspiration on tour.

Another good week for fundraising. It is great to have Eastern Engineering back again this year. Thank you to Tony for the support.

I’ve done some sums this week, and I am going to be very close to an incredible milestone over the coming week. With commitments coming in this week I will have raised almost $70,000. That will mean I am a few thousand short of $200,000 in the three tours I’ve been involved in. WOW! That is blowing me away, just amazing.

I’ll be doing everything I can to reach this goal by the time I join the tour…

Training this week has been good, although the weather hasn’t been great. A couple of indoor sessions this weekend to avoid the weather have been efficient but not quite the time on the bike that I wanted.

The key however has been to stay healthy, so avoiding the cool wind and rain hasn’t been a tough decision. Thankfully the sniffles from last week have passed, so I’m good to go and feeling fit.

An update on Shelli from last week – she had her surgery during the week and despite some pain it appears she is breathing a little easier this week. She has been in all our thoughts this week and will be a key focus during tour.

If you want to see how inspiring Shelli is, check out Kit for Cancer on Facebook, her business that she started after being diagnosed and realising that there were things that cancer suffers needed. The simple things that most people wouldn’t think of, but Shelli has put them all in a Kit.

For those that have followed my earlier blogs you will recall that I am dedicating this year’s ride to my work colleague Peter.

The news for Peter this week has been concentrated on a new liver treatment that he will be getting next week. He has 7 out of 8 segments of his liver impacted so the doctors are keen to ensure that the radiotherapy treatment gets exactly where it needs to go without damaging the good segment.

He also learned that he will be having 12 chemo treatments rather than the original planned 6.

He is doing well but has some challenging times ahead with chemo and the liver treatment in coming weeks.

So the next time you hear from me will be an update of the early days of tour. I will share the exploits of ‘Will-e-make-it’ who will describe the tour experience. And then once I join tour I will add my own thoughts.

There is still time to donate and don’t forget I am trying to hit a big milestone so feel free to share with anybody who might be interested in supporting the great cause that is tour de cure.

Check out the ‘Why We Ride’ video for a great look at what this means to all involved.

Till next time, have a great week.

Cheers, Woody
