Week 10 of 24 Training and Fundraising Update
This week saw the number of days to the tour drop below 100, its crazy how quickly time is going.
Another fantastic week of fundraising, more stories of people impacted by cancer and wanting to support this great cause, despite not knowing me prior to the Tour de Cure story.
This week I was fortunate to meet Kane Richards, who owns the Subway franchise at the University of Sydney. Kane contacted me after making a generous donation due to the impact of cancer on his family. He and his wife do a lot of fundraising for the breast cancer foundation and have agreed to have collection tins on the counter at their three Subway stores leading up to the tour on my behalf. Thanks Kane, the support is greatly appreciated.
I also received Bronze corporate donations from Kemp Strang Lawyers and Coke Cola. As a result of these donations my tally is now just shy of $25,000. I am amazed at how the fundraising has gone to date. I’m starting to understand what Geoff Coombes (Co-Founder TDC) meant when he said ‘Think big’ when it comes to the fundraising. The revised target of $30,000 is now within sight and a realistic goal – let’s hope I have to revise it up again 🙂
Training this week has been the biggest so far, clocking up just over 400kms. Being on holidays from Tuesday has certainly helped, and the extra hour sleep each morning has definitely been appreciated.
After today’s 100km ride with 1300m of ascent the legs are feeling a bit heavy and looking forward to Monday’s rest day. The week ahead is going to be refreshing with extra rest days due to Xmas, but Friday sees us taking on Macquarie Pass in the annual Bushies ride. Should be great fun and a solid challenge of 40-45 minutes of climbing!!!!
Have a great Xmas, enjoy the festivities with family and friends.
Cheers
Woody
