Day 0 – Mackay, QLD

Made it to Mackay a couple of days early to get ready for the Signature Tour 2018.

Day 0 – we started the day with a decent breakfast in Mackay with about 10 other riders who had also arrived early, and then rode 15kms to Walkerston Public School to do a school visit and presentation. It was really cool. There were about 360 kids and they had a Superhero theme to celebrate us being there. and they treated us to a hero’s welcome. They were very loud and full of energy. We delivered the be fit, be healthy, be happy message and handed out gift packs containing a book, stickers, bouncing balls and other cancer info.

This afternoon all tour riders will meet at the Mackay Exhibition and Convention Centre for a team briefing, followed by a community dinner organised by the local Mackay crew with 350 people. There will be a $10,000 cheque presented to a local cancer clinic by James Tobin from Channel 7’s Sunrise who will be hosting the evening.

Looking forward to getting underway tomorrow. We will be having breakfast at Mackay Harbour with 1000 local school kids in attendance before riding 150km’s to Bloomsbury (Midge Point). Tomorrow nights accommodation will be in an and aircraft hanger. Something a little different!!
