Day 2 | Midge Point to Airlie Beach | 123kms

Day 2 – Bloomsbury Airport (Midge Point) to Airlie Beach

A slightly shorter leg today, however, in true Chris fashion, I did and extra 20kms over to Shute Harbour with all those that wanted a few extra kms!!

The first leg of the ride was to Proserpine for morning tea. They had a vintage car parade lined up for us with lots of cars on display. Mark Beretta (‘Berretts’) got to ride in one of the cars and did a parade through town. We were joined by lots of local kids for a couple of kms and Sunrise filmed it all for their documentary.

We then rode out to Lake Proserpine for lunch. Fantastic views of all the ranges around the reservoir with people wake surfing on the lake. I think Sunrise filmed it all.

After lunch we had to ride back to Proserpine into a massive headwind. It was hard work on the front dragging the peloton along but was great to finally ride into Airlie Beach. Absolutely beautiful!!

Dinner last night was at the Whitsunday airport…..right next to the runway. It’s a private airport so no public traffic could interrupt our dinner.

We bid farewell to the stage riders at the end of day 2. Day 3 we are heading to Bowen, and will be only full tour riders so the bunches will be a little smaller.

Til tommorrow…..
