Day 5 | Mission Beach to Tinaroo | 169kms (2122m ascent)

Well that was a bloody big day!! 175 kms and 2200 metres of climbing from Mission Beach to Tinaroo. It was pretty flat to morning tea but with lots of rail crossings to deal with just to challenge us. After morning tea we started climbing up on to the Atherton Tablelands. Then just to challenge us a little more it starting pouring down. We’re in the highest rainfall area in Australia so I guess it was bound to happen. It got quite cold as we waited for the final riders in the group to join us so we had one of the other TDC cars act as our rear car so we could get to lunch and warm up.

After lunch we went to Milaa Milaa State School for a school presentation. It was quite a small school but the engagement with the kids was great. The great Jens Voight then jumped in our bunch as we completed the final part of our trip to Tinaroo. Jensie just stayed in the middle of the peloton and talked to everyone. Man that guy can talk!!

We arrived at Tinaroo Lake Resort finally just before 5pm. Big Day!!

Today was the biggest day of the tour, our Queen stage, so I guess it’s all down hill from here!!
