Day 3 | Airlie Beach to Bowen | 140kms

Day 3 | Airlie Beach to Bowen |140kms

A shorter day today with only 86 kms to cover, from Airlie Beach to Bowen. The weather was spectacular, and a tailwind pushed us the whole way up the Bruce Hwy. Breakfast was at the hotel before we rolled over to the Harbourside at Airlie Beach for Sunrise filming.

Gareth and I had Peloton 2 today and a new group of awesome riders. We flew up the Bruce Highway at times pushing 45 kph on the flats. It was a wild ride at times with trucks and cars flying past us! Safety though is the number one priority in our peloton and we made sure we brought everyone home safely.

Morning tea was by the side of the Bruce Highway. There are some long stretches of road up here and not too many towns to stop in so we didn’t have too many options. After morning tea we rolled another 20kms to the Big Mango. Clint phoned ahead from Peloton 1 and shouted Mango sorbet for everyone. They were awesome!

Then we only had another 12 kms to roll into Bowen for lunch and an early finish. Everyone had a lovely relaxing afternoon either in the pool or at the beach. The views were amazing. Check out some of my photos!

Dinner was at the Larrikin Hotel in town. One of the riders Naomi Land hosted the evening for us in her home town with all of her friends and family. Some of them even hosted the riders at the homes for the night.

Day 4 is a rest day for us as we transfer to Mission Beach. Day 5 will be a big day. About 170kms with lots of hills!!

Warm-ups are important!

Group massages help get through the day

This needs an explanation!!
