Day 7 Signature Tour

Eildon to Melbourne 160km 2200m climbing over 6hr 15min ride time.

Today was a very nostalgic day for me.  Our start base was a place where we often had lovely family holidays at Lake Eildon, as my Dad raced ski boats.  We had a converted bus which we stayed on, which was an absolute highlight of my early childhood.

We then headed off down Maroondah Highway and went through Narbethong.  This is where we owned the Black Spur Hotel for 5 years.  I spent that part of my childhood riding horses for hours on end through the pine plantations.  Great way to spend your time.  We went past the school that I attended in grade 6, which is now closed, where we had only 23 kids (2 of us in grade 6!!).

I attended high school in Healesville which meant many trips down the picturesque Black Spur.  Never thought I would be cycling down it though!!  What a ride.  There was mist at the top of the Spur, and the roads were wet from the dew dripping out of the towering gums.  This really was a highlight.

Then it was into Healesville where I spent much of my life.  The whole of the Yarra Valley is such a beautiful place.  I rode on the front straight into my old primary school to be greeted by some old and dear school friends.  Thanks Kazzie, Kersten, Kirsty and Scott for coming to the school and making me feel like a million dollars!  I did a short introduction on the presentation. I was able to hang around and spend loads of time with them and roll off with Peloton 3.

The ride into Melbourne was uneventful, and riding through all those lights was just a pain!!  We rode along Beach Road all the way into Port Melbourne to board the Spirit of Tasmania.  I shared a tiny, tiny 4 bed cabin, which was hilarious as our bags barely even fit in there. It was a lovely night on the boat and there was a great two man band playing, plus we had the wind trainers set up for more fundraising and Spirit of Tassie crew were great and got stuck into it.  Luckily the crossing was not too rough.

First time ever in Tassie, and we are just about to leave the boat.
