Day 6 Signature Tour

Wangaratta to Eildon – 211km (approx) 3500m climbing, 8hr 24 minutes riding time

At times it was a tough old day in the saddle, as you can imagine!  We had morning tea today at a very cool tiny school where the band played us a few songs, including ‘We will rock you’ – they were very good.  As we were peloton 3 we did the first school presentation at Wangaratta, but then missed the others that were done by other pelotons.  At the lunch stop school the kids were getting us to sing autographs – very funny to be treated like a rock star!!

Over the past six days I have been getting lots of QOM and cups on Strava segments.  For the non cyclists, this is a program that downloads your data onto a public site where your results are compared to others who have ridden that section. I was thinking that maybe not many people had ridden it!!  One of the climbs today was 15km long and was a category 2 (this means it was hard).

At the top of the first big climb I got a bit emotional as we stopped at Jamieson Lookout, which has an amazing view of Eildon below.  There were many family holidays in Eildon, so it reminded me of happy times and both my parents who are no longer with me.  My Dad loved to ski boat race in his day, so Eildon was a regular.

Most people ask how I am feeling.  Well – I have a very sore ass, and at times there are other parts that hurt too.  My shoulder and neck continue to give me grief but are getting better.  Things should be hurting after cycling 1,050 in just 6 days. However, I just remind myself why I am here, and know that people with cancer don’t get to choose.  They didn’t ask to be inflicted with this horrid disease, and they have to endure awful treatments to be rid of it.  I just remind myself to ‘toughen up Princess!!’.  Would not give up this experience for the world regardless of a bit of discomfort.

No pics to day but check out the News tab on the Tour De Cure website.

It’s another late night as our peloton did not even roll in until 7.30pm (which is 1.5 hours after when the community dinner is supposed to start).  A whole bunch of us were also staying out of town, so made it even later before we got to dinner.

Night, night.  Tomorrow is going to be an epic day with a visit to my old home town, and doing a school presentation at Healesville Primary School.

Love you all and thanks so much for your kind comments. Keep them coming, as I need it! xx
