Week 13 of 20 Training and Fundraising Update

It’s a sad start to the update this week. To demonstrate even further how important it is for me to do the Tour De Cure and continue to raise necessary funds to find a cure, this week one of the most amazing friends you could ever hope to have in your life learned that her mum has limited time to live due to lung cancer. Dom, Justin, Jai and Cruz and the entire Burgess family our thoughts are with you.

The past 7 days have been the last chance to get some quality training in the legs prior to tapering for 3Peaks. A solid week of 408kms, including a massive day at the University on Wednesday as part of the OWeek festivities. Just shy of 6 hours on the trainer to raise funds and awareness of the Tour De Cure. It was a great day, a number of students stopping to chat about the ride, the cause and even how they could get involved. A big thank you to Sandra who stayed in the stall all day to assist me and the volunteers collecting donations, and to Owen Barnett who gave up his day to assist as well. Below is our setup for the 3 days of OWeek:

On the fundraising front another good week, the OWeek event raised over $1,600, a number of individual donations are starting to roll in and plans for my major activities are progressing nicely. There is still hope of reaching the goal of $100,000, but if you know of anyone who would like to contribute, every dollar helps.

It was great during the week to speak to the staff at Kemp Strang Lawyers about my 2014 experience, the 2015 ride and the great support they provided. It was also fantastic to hear that they are committed again in 2015 and have some plans for staff events to add to their support. The support of companies like this is very humbling and makes the early mornings and long climbs worth every bit of sweat and pain.

Looking forward to a good massage this week to hopefully get rid of some of the soreness from the legs. It will be a short reprieve as next Sunday is likely to take me to places of pain I’ve never been before. Maybe another massage next week will be needed 🙂

Till next week. Have a great week and wish me luck, 3Peaks here we come. Looking forward to being in a mini Tour De Cure bubble for a few days.

Cheers, Woody
