Week 12 of 20 Training and Fundraising Update

A big week of training this past week, clocking up over 400kms and more than 5,800m of climbing. The weather this weekend hasn’t been great for riding but at least we were still able to get out and complete the planned rides.

The big ride this week was a ripper, every hill in the Royal National Park, 168km and 3500m ascending, which has been labelled the Grand Slam. This was a ride where we were either going up or down for almost the whole ride, there just wasn’t that many flat sections. Throw in some rain and it was a tough day, but a great confidence booster for 3Peaks in just 2 weeks, and confirmation that training is on track for tour. The highlight of the ride was when Owen and I were climbing Bald Hill at Stanwell Tops and a couple of cars full of young lads pulled alongside us and starting singing, only problem was it was a very girly song and they couldn’t sing, but very funny.

Fundraising this week has been good, thanks to IGLU Student Accommodation who have come on as a Bronze partner and ISS Cleaning Services as a Silver partner. It is great to have the corporate support. Anybody who has Uni student kids looking for accommodation close to Uni, the guys at IGLU do a great job.

I now have over $31,000 in committed funds, and this week promises to be another good one. I have a day on the trainer planned for the first day of Sydney Uni’s OWeek, a couple more days of fundraising during the remainder of OWeek, a presentation to the staff of a corporate partner from last year and further progress of initiatives with Vittoria, who have jumped on board in a big way. So when you think coffee, look for Vittoria.

We are now less than 9 weeks from the start of tour, or 61 days as of today. I recall from last year that when we reached this point things started to happen very quickly and time disappeared rapidly.

This next week of training will start to slow down toward the second half of the week as I enter a taper period for 3Peaks. The taper has come at a good time, giving me a chance to freshen up before one last block of solid training prior to tour.

Till next week.

Cheers, Woody
